The new signaling system is configured to facilitate the safe movement of a higher number of trains at a greater frequency, with the line currently serving 17 passenger trains daily.
For the first time in Australia, a next-generation signaling system has been integrated into the existing network.
Passengers on the Cranbourne/Pakenham line will be transported through the metro tunnel using the new High Capacity Metro Trains (HCMT) fleet of large and improved metro trains for Melbourne.
The new trains operating in the metro tunnel and new five stations will exclusively use the HCS system.
Additionally, trains traveling through the Cranbourne/Pakenham line to the Sunbury Line will utilize a combination of HCS and traditional signaling.
