The MIU order on limiting the service life of gondola cars and grain carriers in Ukraine will come into force on January 31.

According to the law, 43 grain carriers are to be decommissioned this year.

Valeriy Tkachev, deputy director of the commercial work department of Ukrzaliznytsia JSC, spoke about this at a meeting with grain producers on January 20, informs Railway Supply magazine with reference to Railinsider.

According to the official, 43 grain carriers are scheduled to be decommissioned in 2022, 38 of which belong to UZ, and 5 belong to other owners. In 2023, 398 grain carriers will leave the wagon fleet of UZ, and 71 – from the private fleet. In 2024, Ukrzaliznytsia must write off 574 grain carriers, while other owners – 725.

As Valery Tkachev explained, the mass decommissioning of rolling stock will begin in 2025 and will amount from 2,000 to 4,000 wagons per year.

He also noted that currently there are 4.5 thousand grain carriers in the non-working fleet.
