MARTA rail station renovations advance across Atlanta

The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority says work is now complete at Brookhaven, College Park, Five Points, Garnett, Indian Creek, Peachtree Center, Vine City and Airport stations. The upgrades are part of a $1 billion, multi-decade improvement program launched in 2021.

Work continues at Arts Center, Bankhead, East Lake, H.E. Holmes and Lenox stations. In its official update on the Station Rehabilitation Program, MARTA said the wider effort covers infrastructure, passenger amenities and the overall station environment across the network.

Passenger amenities and infrastructure upgrades

The station upgrades cover passenger amenities and selected structural improvements. They include new flooring, improved lighting, graffiti-resistant wall surfaces, deep cleaning, renovated operator booths and restrooms, landscaping and other passenger-facing improvements.

At East Lake and Indian Creek, MARTA is also including pedestrian bridges. New elevators are part of the work at Airport and East Lake stations, with the changes intended to support safer and cleaner rail stations and more reliable service for passengers.

World Cup pause for MARTA station upgrades

MARTA Interim General Manager and CEO Jonathan Hunt said the systemwide program is focused on safer, cleaner stations and more reliable service for customers. He also said MARTA and its construction partners have been working to complete the upgrades before the World Cup, while the improved service and experience should continue to benefit Atlanta after the tournament crowds leave.

Construction will pause while Atlanta hosts FIFA World Cup matches from June 15 to July 15.
