MAPNA Group Establishes Domesticate Manufacturing and Upgrades Train Cars

MAPNA Group inked agreements with RAI for the delivery of 40 MAP30 freight locomotives valued at around $205 million as well as the refurbishment of 37 ER24PC passenger locomotives valued at around $54 million. It shows faith in local manufacturers and a desire to refurbish the railway fleet of Iran.

Furthermore, MAPNA, RAI, and Yazd Rail of Beshmar Group signed a membrane on manufacturing 50 passenger coaches in Wagon Pars plant, MAPNA, with a value of about $54 million. It will increase local production capability, create new job opportunities, and rise in Iranian-made content percentage.

The Ministry of Roads and Urban Development (MRUD) mentioned that these contracts reflect the investment opportunities of Iran and the durability of transport sector. MAPNA mentioned that the localization percentage in locomotive manufacturing is as high as 85%, while contract execution dates stand at 14-29 months with impressive development in engineering and manufacturing capabilities.

MAPNA Group Enhances Its Dominance in Railway Engineering

MAP30 freight locomotive is equipped with the first locally-made diesel engine in Iran, the MP610, of 4,000 horsepower. unveiled in May of 2024, it was a significant step in the nation’s industrialization process. It is suitable for harsh climatic conditions of the country due to a combination of energy efficiency and reliability.

MAPNA is also reconditioning ER24PC (Iran Safir) locomotives that served the country nationwide from 2010. The initial 30 sets were manufactured in Germany, but the further 120 locomotives were domestically assembled in a Siemens’ license. It paved the way for MAPNA’s railway unit and enhanced domestic production.

Authorities mention that such projects help to cut imports and deepen transport independence for Iran. MAPNA not only promotes inhouse capabilities but also emerges as a system of industry around locomotive production with spin-off advantages for engineers, producers, and local production centers.
