British Transport Police quickly responded to the incident and apprehended the trespasser. Northern, Network Rail, and other operators coordinated efforts to move stranded trains and resume regular service.
A British Transport Police spokesperson reported that officers were called near Levenshulme station around 14:00. Emergency responders—including police, paramedics, and fire crews—ensured safety and detained the trespasser.
Multiple routes across the North West suffered, including services from Carlisle to Newcastle, as well as routes in Yorkshire and Teesside. National Rail noted that Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry, East Midlands Railway, Northern, TransPennine Express, and Transport for Wales services were all affected.
According to a Northern spokesperson, North West services would likely experience further cancellations and delays. Passengers with tickets were encouraged to consider alternative routes on Manchester Metrolink Tram Services, TransPennine Express, East Midlands Railway, Transport for Wales, and Cross Country.
Travelers seeking alternate options found routes to Manchester City Centre and Manchester Airport.
