Casablanca Rail Expansion Boosts Urban Mobility
Morocco unveiled a gigantic rail infrastructure program costing $2 billion in Casablanca, propelled by King Mohammed VI’s mission of sustainable transportation. These projects focus on the modernization of urban transit and enhancement of everyday connectivity for the residents.
The program comprises three new-generation main stations, ten new TMP stations, and the upgrading of five others. 260 kilometers of new track will be installed by engineers, 50 civil-engineering structures will be expanded, and two technical centers and five maintenance works shops will be implemented.
To accommodate growing passenger demand, 48 new trains will be added to both regionals and locals. Casablanca-Sud hub will be the core of the transformation, bringing together the long-distance and the commutes to improve comfort and efficiency.
Casablanca Projects Support Morocco’s Green Future
It is financed by the Office National des Chemins de Fer, the 70-percent contributor, and the Region of Casablanca, the 30-percent contributory. This co-operation mirrors the Moroccan policy of distributing burdens between the national and the regional institutions.
Since Casablanca links major cities, including Rabat, Kenitra, and Marrakech, the investment reinforces economic and environmental resilience. It goes along with the 430-kilometer Kenitra-Marrakech high-capacity rail link currently under construction.
The mega-plan aligns with Morocco’s low-carbon ambitions and urbanization priorities. And by upgrading rail transportation, the Kingdom creates an innovation, reliability, and sustainable growth through 2030 ecosystem.
