Infrastructure Upgrades at WMATA’s Bladensburg Bus Garage

WMATA opened its modern Bladensburg Bus Garage, replacing outdated structures with a LEED Platinum-ready facility. The site features 31 maintenance bays, fueling lanes, a body shop, and an employee wellness center for improved work conditions.

The garage supports sustainable operations with solar panels and rainwater harvesting systems. WMATA CEO Randy Clarke emphasized that the project improves service reliability for customers while creating safer, more efficient workplaces for nearly 500 employees.

Future plans include a multi-level parking structure for 292 buses and separate entrances to ease traffic flow. WMATA Board Chair Valerie Santos called the new garage a “symbol of progress and sustainability.”
