The first train is expected to be operational in the first half of 2027. Its design will include walkthrough carriages, and the automation level will comply with the GoA2 standard. This initiative will replace outdated 2000A models produced by CAF in the 1980s, which no longer meet current safety and comfort standards.

Earlier, in June of this year, the Madrid Metro signed a similar agreement with CAF to supply 40 six-car trains for Lines 6 and 8. This contract, valued at €400 million, also included a program for lifecycle optimization. Financing for this purchase will be secured through loans from the European Investment Bank.

This acquisition will enable Madrid Metro to improve transport services and reduce train intervals on Line 1.
