Lufthansa Express Rail is rapidly gaining popularity among travelers combining flights with train journeys in Germany. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Expansion of Lufthansa Express Rail Routes in 2024
The Lufthansa Express Rail service continues to attract more passengers across Germany. From January to October 2024, 432,000 travelers passing through Frankfurt Airport used this innovative program. This number marks a 28% increase compared to the same period in 2023, showing growing demand for combined travel options.

By the end of 2024, Lufthansa Express Rail confirmed over 500,000 bookings for its unified travel ticket. This allows passengers to seamlessly combine flights and train trips with perfectly aligned schedules. This milestone represents a record in the 20-year partnership between Lufthansa and DB.
Benefits of Lufthansa Express Rail for International Travelers
In 2024, Lufthansa Express Rail expanded its route network significantly. Cities like Augsburg, Siegburg/Bonn, Wolfsburg, and Essen joined the service’s network. The total number of cities connected to Europe’s busiest airport reached 28. This figure is more than double the number of domestic routes Lufthansa operates from Frankfurt Airport.
International routes also gained attention, including the link between Munich’s central station and Zurich Airport. Trains on this route make optional stops, such as in Bregenz, Austria, enhancing connectivity for travelers. Demand for these routes continues to rise steadily.
Daily, ICE trains make over 240 trips, perfectly synchronized with Lufthansa flights. This synchronization minimizes waiting times and ensures seamless connections, making travel more convenient. Lufthansa and DB’s collaboration highlights their commitment to innovative passenger transport solutions.
Lufthansa Express Rail’s services extend beyond Lufthansa passengers. Thanks to an agreement between DB and Star Alliance, travelers from other member airlines can also use this service. Since late 2023, United Airlines passengers have enjoyed access to the service, opening new travel possibilities across Europe.
Lufthansa Express Rail owes its success to reliability, convenience, and well-organized routes. In 2024, the program expanded the number of trains and cities included, reaching an even broader audience. These achievements confirm the high demand for combined travel services and their bright future.
