Adif Alta Velocidad had previously launched a €44 million tender, with potential funding reaching €120 million. This initiative aims to link Murcia and Lorca, improving regional accessibility and travel efficiency across southeastern Spain.
Interested firms must submit bids by March 14 for a 26-month contract. The winning company will oversee construction, set up a maintenance hub, and establish a circulation services building at the Murcia logistics center.
Lorca High-Speed Train Construction Progresses Rapidly
Construction in Lorca remains on track, with a 3-kilometre tunnel already taking shape. Designed for dual-track operations, this underground passage will facilitate passenger and freight transport with enhanced efficiency.
The tunnel extends from Lorca-San Diego station to the RM-11 intersection. This key link will seamlessly connect to the Lorca-Pulpí section, creating an integrated railway network for Murcia and Almería.
Another critical segment under construction is the Totana-Lorca stretch. Once completed, this section will strengthen transport infrastructure, enhancing regional mobility and economic activity.
Despite visible progress, uncertainty surrounds the project’s completion date. Regional authorities aim to finalize the track next year, while ADIF anticipates a 2027 completion.
Delays could affect commuters and businesses depending on improved transport options. However, officials remain committed to delivering an efficient, modern railway system for southeastern Spain.
The high-speed rail expansion will drive economic growth, enhance tourism, and attract investment. Improved infrastructure will benefit Murcia, Lorca, and Almería, fostering long-term development.
Authorities emphasize their dedication to maintaining steady progress. Each milestone brings the railway project closer to reality, overcoming financial and logistical challenges.
