The FXN5C locomotives will become the primary serial model of mainline locomotives in China
29.02.2024
CRRC, one of the largest Chinese manufacturers of railway equipment, has announced the start of serial production of next-generation mainline locomotives, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
As part of this initiative, the company has delivered the first batch of 15 two-section Fuxing platform locomotives, model FXN5C, to the transportation company Daqin Railway.
The share of Ukrainian products in Ukrzaliznytsia’s procurement is 74%
These locomotives have already started transporting coal along the Taiyao railway line.
The FXN5C locomotives are equipped with 12-cylinder R12V280ZJ diesel engines with a power of 3530 kW, meeting Tier 3 emission standards.
They are highly efficient, with a fuel consumption of only 198 g/kWh, and boast impressive tractive effort: 580 kN when starting and 540 kN in continuous operation.
The maximum speed reaches 120 km/h. According to CRRC’s statement, compared to the outdated Dongfeng 8B locomotive produced since 1997, the new model will annually save up to 176 thousand liters of fuel.
It is projected that within the next 10 years, the FXN5C locomotives will become the main serial model of mainline locomotives in China, gradually replacing outdated Dongfeng 4, Dongfeng 8, and Harmony 3 series machines developed in the late 20th century.
This move confirms CRRC’s commitment to constant improvement and modernization of railway equipment in the country.
