This strategic development will extend the Merseyrail Northern Line into the Baltic Triangle, a hub known for its creative and digital industries. As part of the Liverpool City Region’s transport transformation, the station promises to enhance access and connectivity across the area.
Liverpool Baltic Station to Play Central Role in Regional Transport Vision
Mayor Steve Rotheram confirmed that the Liverpool Baltic Station forms a crucial part of his £1 billion plan to deliver a London-style, integrated transport network. Following the recent opening of Headbolt Lane station, new stops are also planned for Daresbury, Woodchurch, and Carr Mill.
“We’re not only building stations, we’re connecting lives and creating opportunities,” said Mayor Rotheram. “Everyone deserves access to reliable, high-quality public transport—this is a step toward that goal.”
Public-Backed Design Will Enhance Access and Sustainability
The new Liverpool Baltic Station will feature step-free access, toilets, secure bike storage, and direct links to the city’s expanding active travel routes. Strong public backing during the consultation process influenced the design, ensuring accessibility and sustainability remain top priorities.
Funded through the City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement, this project reflects a broader commitment to modernising infrastructure while reducing environmental impact. Officials expect the station to be operational by the end of 2027.
In addition to easing congestion, the development will likely stimulate economic activity throughout the Baltic Triangle. Improved transport options are anticipated to attract further investment, foster job creation, and support urban regeneration in surrounding areas.
As Liverpool continues to evolve, the new Baltic Station stands as a symbol of progress—bridging communities and reinforcing the city’s role as a forward-thinking transport leader.
