Lithuania intends to prohibit the transit of certain dual-use goods through its territory, according to the railway portal Railway Supply.

Prohibition of transit of certain dual-use goods

The restrictive measures involve a temporary ban on the overland transportation of such goods through Lithuania and to Lithuania for at least one year.

The Ministry of Economy and Innovation of Lithuania will propose this measure to the country’s government in order to prevent the transportation of specific goods, mainly electronics, to Russia and Belarus through other countries.

Railway equipment, materials, services

The Lithuanian side has identified a disproportionate increase in the transit of such goods through its territory to third countries, which, according to their assumptions, could be directed to Russia.

Minister Aušrinė Armonaitė also stated that some of these goods could be used by the Russian side in relation to the conflict in Ukraine.

In addition to Lithuania, other European Union countries are also considering proposals to prohibit the transit of goods through Russian territory.
