In total, Astana will receive 19 trains, each 60 meters long and consisting of four sections. The trains will have a passenger capacity of over 600 people, and the control system will be equipped with GoA4 automation.

The maximum speed of the trains for Astana will be 80 km/h, with a total power output of 1,722 kW. To reduce noise, the cars will feature thick windows, sound-absorbing panels, and elastic wheels.

The train interiors will be finished with durable composite materials and organosilicate leather for longevity. The windshield will have a heating system to prevent fogging during sudden temperature changes.

When Will Astana Complete the New Line Construction?

The light rail project in Astana began back in 2011 and is now approaching the final stage. The total length of the line will be 40 kilometers, including 18 stations, with a track gauge of 1,520 mm.

Construction work is expected to be completed by summer 2025, after which commissioning procedures will begin. System tests and train trial runs will be the final steps before the official launch.

How Astana Will Change After the Launch of the Light Rail?

The light rail line in Astana will become part of the “smart city” concept, incorporating advanced technologies. Platforms will be equipped with surveillance cameras, and all stations will have accessible zones for passengers with reduced mobility.

All trains will provide passengers with free wireless internet throughout the journey. The introduction of this project will help Astana reduce traffic congestion and improve the environmental situation in the city.
