The Lagos State House of Assembly has upped transport modernization with the Lagos State Railway Corporation Bill 2025, which was signed at a public hearing in Ikeja. Lawmakers, government officials, and transport stakeholders converged with the aim of perfecting the law for the sustainable development of infrastructure.

The Bill provides a legal framework for administering, maintaining and growing Lagos’s transport network. Legislators emphasized increased transport capacity in the form of improved railways relieving pressure from the roads and connecting with others such as bus and ferry routes.
Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda commenced the sitting while highlighting inclusives in governance. She explained citizen involvement such that all policies are inclusive of the interest of the people, transparent, and traceable.
Lagos State Railway Corporation Supports Sustainable Growth
He described the Bill as following the second reading which was sponsored by Majority Leader Hon. Noheem Adams. He observed that the project is set to reinforce Lagos’s intermodal links and facilitate swifter and cheaper commuting.
He also stated that the transport regulator will also be LAMATA, with LASRAWCO in charge of the provision of the trains services, infrastructure, and the attendant fees. The Bill outlines LASRAWCO’s functions in fare regulation, facilitating innovation, and ensuring service delivery efficiency.
Legislators hope the project spurs sustainable growth. By growing the capacity in the railways, Lagos can reduce emissions, increase productivity, and promote economic growth. And since effective mobility fuels competitiveness, the project’s a long-term investment in the state’s future.
When in practice, the Lagos State Railway Corporation shall set Lagos up as the reference point for African integrated urban transport.
