LA Metro Expands A Line Service to Pomona and Beyond
05.10.2025
LA Metro opened its grand extension to Pomona, its highly acclaimed and highly ambitious $1.5 billion project that strengthens connections, sustainability, and mobility throughout Los Angeles County.
This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

LA Metro Invests in Regional Development and Sustainability
LA Metro unleashed the nine-mile extension of the A Line that connects Glendora, San Dimas, La Verne, and Pomona North. The extension broadens the extension of rail service from Long Beach through Los Angeles downtown to Pomona.

Passenger service had commenced operation on September 19, 2025, and the ribbon was cut on September 30. Area events joyfully marked the occasion, focusing on new transportation availability and less dependence on the automobile.
Thanks to the extension, riders now take just over an hour to move from Union Station to Pomoma. Trains now run at frequent intervals of eight minutes in peak times, and riders thus get faster and more frequent service.
LA Metro Enhances Linkages throughout San Gabriel Valley
The extension interlines with the San Bernardino Line of the Metrolink at Pomona North, allowing for convenient trips into the Inland Empire. It also enhances service for students in the nearby colleges and universities.
Stephanie Wiggins, president of Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority, stated that it “opens up potential for over a million residents.” She continued that increased accessibility benefits regional economies and cleaner air throughout the region.
Each station is equipped with parking, bike storage, and electrified vehicle-fee stations. And since the Foothill Transit buses interline, riders may ride both for free and transfer freely.
The 1.5 billion dollar project started in 2020 through the Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority, funded mainly through county sales taxes with state assistance. The investment is in line with long-term mobility planning for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games by Metro.
The project also restores the past, for the same passageway once was home to Pacific Electric’s Red Cars prior to service in 1951. Today, state-of-the-art light-rail trains restore green transportation to the San Gabriel Valley.
