Kyiv is preparing for a major overhaul of its metro system
24.10.2023
City authorities are planning to secure a multi-million-euro loan from the European Union for the refurbishment of 220 metro cars and the acquisition of 95 new ones, this is reported by the railway transport news portal, Railway Supply.
The signed memorandum with the European Investment Bank places the modernization of the city’s transportation infrastructure at the forefront.
This is a crucial step for the city, as the majority of the metro cars are considered outdated and contain equipment from an aggressor country.
Funds totaling 450 million euros will assist Kyiv in refreshing 40% of its rolling stock, making the metro more modern and safer for passengers.
This project also holds strategic importance by reducing dependence on equipment supplies from Russia.
Investments in transportation infrastructure like these contribute to the city’s development, enhance mobility for residents, and improve transportation conditions.
It’s significant that Kyiv is demonstrating its willingness to cooperate with international financial institutions, which can promote economic growth and the improvement of urban infrastructure.
The successful implementation of the project is expected to make Kyiv’s metro system more modern and convenient for all its users.
