Kuwait Launches Gulf Railway Project to Connect Six Gulf Countries

The Gulf Railway project aims to link six Gulf countries and enhance their transportation network. It is a pivotal project for regional integration and economic cooperation. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Gulf Railway: Initial Tender and Future Development
The first tender, valued at $8 million, focuses on designing the railway between Kuwait and Oman. This process is expected to take 12 months, with the winning bid to be announced soon.

Additional tenders will appoint contractors to oversee construction, management, and supervision of the Gulf Railway project. Consultants will also assist in forming the Kuwait Railway Company and constructing a passenger station in Al-Shadadiyah.
Gulf Railway and Regional Infrastructure Growth
The Gulf Railway will connect Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Oman, and Bahrain with a 2,177 km rail network. Construction costs will total $250 billion, proportionally distributed among participating countries.
Passenger trains will operate at speeds up to 220 km/h, while freight trains will run at 120 km/h. Completion is targeted for 2030, driving economic integration and improving regional connectivity.
Other railway projects in the Gulf are also advancing rapidly. For instance, the UAE’s Hafeet Rail will connect Abu Dhabi with the port of Sohar in Oman. Meanwhile, Etihad Rail has announced plans for a high-speed rail link between Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
These transformative initiatives demonstrate the region’s commitment to modernizing transportation. The Gulf Railway remains central to enhancing mobility, fostering economic growth, and integrating the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
