Contract for 10 Smartron electric locomotives for Bulgaria

Bulgaria’s State Railways are expanding their electric locomotive fleet through a contract with Siemens Mobility, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
A total of 91.1 million levs (46.6 million euros) will be spent on acquiring 10 Smartron electric locomotives based on the Vectron construction platform.

These locomotives, capable of reaching speeds up to 160 km/h, will be delivered in stages, with the first expected by the end of 18 months.
The contract includes technical maintenance, machine repairs, and staff training, strengthening the partnership between BDZ (Bulgarian State Railways) and Siemens Mobility.
The total number of Smartron electric locomotives in Bulgaria will reach 25 units.
Additionally, two contracts totaling 84.7 million levs have been signed, covering the supply of spare parts and technical maintenance for the first 15 Smartron locomotives delivered by May 2021.
These agreements underscore the commitment to long-term cooperation and provide a reliable infrastructure for the development of Bulgaria’s railway system.
