Western Australia has entered a new era of public transportation with the launch of the first locally manufactured electric train in three decades, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Alstom has supplied the first C series electric train for the state capital, Perth.

AECOM and Jacobs will oversee the Frederick Douglass Tunnel project for Amtrak

This six-car train, based on the Alstom X’trapolis platform, is an energy-efficient transportation vehicle capable of carrying up to 1200 passengers at speeds of up to 130 km/h.

It’s important to note that each car is equipped with three automatic doors on both sides for passenger convenience.

This milestone was made possible through a contract between Alstom and the Public Transport Authority of Western Australia (PTA) signed in 2019.

Under this contract, Alstom committed to delivering 41 six-car electric trains and 2 three-car diesel trains, as well as providing train maintenance for 20 years.

The cost of this major project amounted to 1.3 billion Australian dollars.

To fulfill the contract, Alstom invested in creating a high-tech manufacturing facility in Perth.

Alstom has delivered the first C series electric train

Today, the plant employs over 165 people, and the participation of more than 15 local companies in the production and supply of components for electric trains has achieved a localization level of 50%.

This project not only provides the residents of Western Australia with convenient and modern public transportation but also contributes to the development of the local economy and innovative technologies.

The introduction of the C series electric train into service is a step forward towards a sustainable and modern transportation system, improving the quality of life for city dwellers and protecting the environment.
