As of today, the Orange Line runs for the Ruby crossing. After completion of Chingrighata section, this line would connect Sector V and tap to Green Line. It will permit passengers to make a full circle to Esplanade.

Travellers on the Blue Line from Esplanade can transfer to the Orange Line at New Garia already. To Sector V Orange Line will be connected with Green Line towards central Kolkata after Orange Line reaches Sector V.

Metro Will Ring in More Routes at Kolkata’s Earliest Transport

There are also plans to create a second loop by linking Joka to Esplanade and Tollygunge on the Blue Line using the Purple Line. This project will also extend the coverage of Kolkata Metro and shorten the time of transfer for the passengers travelling by Metro daily.

In future, the airport will also be connected by the Yellow Line from Noapara. That track will enable passengers to return to New Garia on the Orange Line, making for a larger transit loop.

The completion of the remaining 2.6 km stretch of the East-West corridor between Sealdah and Esplanade is still in progress. Metro is following safety orders by the Commission of Railway Safety, which cleared the section in April, subject to certain conditions on fire and signal systems.

Kolkata metro passengers to experience a better travel with latest features

Ratlam’s DRM R N Sunkar(fake) inaugurated new facilities such as digital lockers and massage chairs at Howrah and Esplanade stations recently. These features are a testament to Kolkata Metro’s efforts to reduce travel stess while ensuring a more efficient journey for its passengers.

Today the North-South line carries more than 700,000 passengers a day. And when the East-West section is complete, officials projected more than one million riders each day and a system further anchored in the life of the city.

At Chingrighata, construction has been simply halted since February. Lack of space is the big problem for Rail Vikas Nigam Limited that wants two weekends’ nights for the installation of the last spans. The remaining 304m will keep to Sukantanagar and another drain, without interfering with traffic.

Land problems have caused the Purple Line’s Kidderpore station to be similarly delayed. But three other underground stations are work in progress and Metro plans to launch the Noapara-Airport section of Yellow Line later this year.
