Knorr-Bremse to Overhaul Sanitary Systems on Pendolino Trains in the UK

Knorr-Bremse has signed a long-term agreement for the overhaul and modernization of the sanitary installations of the Pendolino trains of Alstom and has strengthened its leadership in the UK market.

Knorr-Bremse Upgrades Alstom’s Service Infrastructure
Knorr-Bremse Rail Services (UK) will perform the maintenance and overhaul of 510 sanitary system installations onboard Avanti West Coast’s Pendolino-operated trains. The eight-year agreement comprises a complete refurbishment of the equipment that was supplied by the company of Evac, acquired by Knorr-Bremse in 2021.

Technicians at Longsight, Manchester, for Alstom will take the sanitary modules off the trains. The parts will be shipped to Knorr-Bremse’s facility in Wiltshire, where the engineers will take the components apart for detailed inspection and replacement or refurbishment of crucial pieces such as solenoid valves and vacuum pumps. The components will be shipped back after certification and testing for reinstallation.
As the project encompasses crucial onboard infrastructure, the two companies are employing novel quality assurance and digital technologies. The technologies will streamline maintenance schedules, curb expenditures, and trim train downtime so that service delivery is more efficient.
