China has presented the world’s first metro train made of carbon fiber
28.06.2024
At the factory in Qingdao, a grand presentation took place for the future transportation solution – the six-car CETROVO 1.0 Carbon Star Express metro train, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

This innovative train, manufactured from carbon fiber, is the result of extensive research and development by Chinese engineers at CRRC.

The main achievement of this novelty is the use of carbon fiber not only for the body and chassis frames but also for other load-bearing structures of the carriages.
This material, known for its exceptional strength characteristics surpassing steel by five times, has helped reduce the train’s weight by 11%, leading to a 7% reduction in electricity consumption.
Additionally, the carbon-ceramic brake discs have enhanced braking efficiency and durability compared to traditional counterparts.
Another significant upgrade is the implementation of the GoA4 automatic train operation system, ensuring safe and autonomous train management. This enables the train to achieve speeds of up to 140 km/h, meeting modern requirements for fast and efficient urban transport.

CRRC also introduced the SmartCare innovative maintenance platform, based on digital twins, promising significant cost reductions throughout the train’s lifecycle. This marks an important step towards resource efficiency and enhancing transportation infrastructure effectiveness.

The new CETROVO 1.0 Carbon Star Express train is expected to soon begin operations on Qingdao’s first metro line, showcasing advanced technologies and setting new standards in sustainable transport.
