Kerala to get Vande Bharat Sleeper Train for night-travel with modern facilities and better connectivity. The south Indian state of Kerala will get the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train in the Thiruvananthapuram–Mangaluru route to provide a new overnight travel experience. Vande Bharat Sleeper Train to Augment Kerala’s Rail Network

Kerala is the 1st one to get the Novandecoach Ever wheels! Indian Railways rolled out the prestigious Vande Bharat Sleeper Train and has assigned it to Southern Railway. This 16-coach train, developed by the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) and constructed by Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML), will have airconditioned coaches, automatic doors and the Kavach safety system.

The train is designed to carry up to about 1,128 passengers, equipped with comfortable sleeping berths in an ergonomic design and fashionable interiors. GPS-driven LED screens and individual reading lights will be featured behind each coach to maximize passenger comfort. Toilets and berths will also be accessible.

Development Timeline and Future Plans

The Vande Bharat chair car version is under development at ICF, with configurations of 8, 16 and 20 coaches. Ten existing rakes are to be modified to accommodate sleeper coaches with 16 of the chair cars. ICF also has an order to produce 50 more Vande Bharat Sleeper trains, the delivery of which is likely to be completed by 2026-27.

Onboard services will be enhanced by a modular panrty to optimize catering. But the coaches will also have automatic doors for passenger convenience and an integrated security system, called Kavach, for security.

The fact that Kerala is included in this project drives home that state’s increased importance in the larger scheme of things for road transportation in India. The Vande Bharat Sleeper Train will transform long distance travel with speed, ease and safety.
