Over $2 million came from the Kentucky Industrial Access and Safety Improvement (KIASI) program, while the Kentucky Rail Crossing Improvement (KRCI) program allocated $1.6 million. These efforts aim to drive economic growth and enhance Kentucky’s rail infrastructure.

Key Projects Funded in Kentucky

Norfolk Southern Railway received $605,000 from KIASI to stabilize soil beneath tracks in Florence’s industrial parks. This project ensures the long-term stability of the infrastructure, supporting local industries.

Pittsburg Glass Works LLC was awarded $1.4 million in KIASI funds to build a new 580-foot spur line in Madison County. This will improve rail-car storage and connect to CSX, enhancing the region’s logistical capabilities.

Upgrading Rail Crossings Across Kentucky

The KRCI grants focus on enhancing safety at crossings across six counties in eastern, central, and northern Kentucky. Norfolk Southern and Paducah & Louisville Railway are spearheading these projects, which include upgrading signals, lights, and installing raised curb medians with reflective markers.

Additionally, two projects will replace crossing surfaces entirely, further boosting safety measures. The funding will cover up to 80% of rail companies’ costs, improving both infrastructure and public safety.

These investments reflect Kentucky’s commitment to strengthening its rail network. They not only improve safety but also encourage economic development and growth within the state.
