Workers restored the forecourt, façade, waiting rooms, and footbridges. Crews reinforced roofs and ramps by replacing aging timber, and stabilized the gable wall of the café to ensure long-term safety.
Disintegrating chimneys were carefully rebuilt brick by brick. In addition, workers completed drainage and masonry repairs and reopened the western elevation link bridge after strengthening structural supports.
Keighley Station Upgrade Preserves Railway Heritage
Despite the extensive work, Keighley Station remained open throughout the project. Passengers observed progress, but the full transformation became clear only when the scaffolding was removed.
According to Network Rail’s Jonny Ham, the team worked with pride, balancing present-day functionality with heritage preservation. Visitors now experience both improved access and preserved architectural details.
Matthew Stroh from the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway called the effort a true collaboration. He emphasized the shared commitment to honoring the station’s legacy while delivering modern convenience.
The upgraded station now welcomes both everyday commuters and railway enthusiasts, standing as a proud symbol of preservation and progress.
