“Kazakhstan Railways” may be disbanded and put up for privatization

The Ministry of Transport is considering withdrawing the main railway network of Kazakhstan from the structure of “Kazakhstan Railways,” stated Marat Karabayev, the Minister of Transport, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
According to him, the management functions of the main railway network are planned to be transferred to a separate organization.
At the same time, “Kazakhstan Railways” will retain only the functions of a railway carrier.
The senior official also mentioned that the issue of privatizing “Kazakhstan Railways” is already under discussion.
“The main railway networks are a strategic asset that will not go public through an IPO,” emphasized the Minister of Transport.
