Kazakhstan and Oman are strengthening their strategic partnership along the North–South Trade Route, seeking to boost cargo flow and economic ties between Asia and the Middle East. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Over the past decade, container transit across Kazakhstan has increased fivefold. This growth highlights the country’s expanding role as a transport hub and its rising influence in regional logistics.

The North–South Trade Route connects St. Petersburg and Mumbai, spanning nearly 7,200 kilometers through countries like Iran, Azerbaijan, and Turkmenistan. It combines road, rail, sea, and inland waterways.
Kazakhstan Railways is developing the Trans-Afghan corridor, providing Central Asia with direct access to Arabian Sea ports. This route reduces delivery times and opens new links to Oman and the Persian Gulf.
Kazakhstan Targets Expansion on the North–South Trade Route
Officials see the corridor as more than a transit path—it’s a gateway for long-term cooperation, innovation, and infrastructure growth between Eurasian and Gulf nations.
Launched in 2000 by Russia, Iran, and India, the initiative now includes 14 countries. Its multimodal nature increases flexibility and resilience amid global supply chain changes.
Oman Eyes Greater Connectivity via North–South Trade Route
Both countries aim to streamline cargo transit and reduce shipping costs. Improved coordination and investment are expected to attract new trade volumes across the corridor.
Enhanced infrastructure, combined with logistical partnerships, could transform the corridor into a critical artery of intercontinental commerce over the next decade.
