04.09.2024
Kazakhstan is actively investing in the development of the Middle Corridor, as confirmed by a recent statement from the government of the republic, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
The developed roadmap aims to address existing “bottlenecks” and optimize the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.
Global Freight Wagon Market: Growth Slowdown and New Trends Until 2028
The goal of these measures is to increase the corridor’s capacity, connecting Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Georgia, to 10 million tons per year by 2027.
Significant steps have already been taken to achieve this goal, including the creation of a unified multimodal service along the entire route.
The establishment of the Middle Corridor Multimodal joint venture has been a key step in managing the route.
This enterprise brings together the railway administrations of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Georgia to efficiently manage the corridor on an equal partnership basis.
To improve logistics processes, a “single window” principle has been implemented. In this regard, the information systems of the railways of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan have been integrated into the Tez Customs platform.
Future plans include similar integration with Georgian railways, which will significantly simplify customs procedures.
A notable achievement has been the construction of a cargo terminal at the dry port in the city of Xi’an, undertaken within the framework of the China-Kazakhstan Trade and Logistics Company joint venture.
This terminal now consolidates 40% of all container trains heading to Kazakhstan.
Recently, freight traffic along the Middle Corridor has increased 1.6 times, indicating positive changes and a significant rise in cargo flows.
Thus, Kazakhstan’s investments in the development of the Middle Corridor underscore its strategic importance for international logistics and economic cooperation.
