Negotiating Contract Terms with Alstom
The issue was discussed during a working meeting at the Ministry of Transport, chaired by the head of the ministry and attended by representatives from Alstom.
During the meeting, the parties reviewed key conditions for long-term cooperation and outlined mutually beneficial contract parameters that will balance both sides’ interests.
Moreover, in November 2024, KTZ and Alstom signed an agreement to manufacture a new type of freight electric locomotive, the KZ6A, equipped with asynchronous traction motors in Kazakhstan.
As part of the deal, the companies agreed to supply 117 locomotives by the end of 2028 and to establish a network of service centers for their maintenance.
Development of Kazakhstan’s Railway Infrastructure
Under current agreements, “KTZ-Freight Transportation” LLP also plans to purchase an additional 108 KZ8A freight electric locomotives and 54 KZ4AT passenger electric locomotives from Alstom, with all deliveries expected to be completed by 2027.
Since Kazakhstan actively promotes the development of its railway sector, investments in fleet modernization have become a key part of the national strategy. The country effectively leverages its strategic location at the crossroads of Eurasia’s major land transport corridors.
Therefore, recent years have seen an unprecedented growth in the production and procurement of railway equipment, supported by strong government initiatives.
