The investment will also help the department conduct research and analysis to reduce the impact of climate change and extreme weather conditions on rail infrastructure. Part of the funding will also be used under the current Railway Safety Improvement Program.
Omar Algabra, Minister of Transport of Canada said: “Today’s event will strengthen the safety of our rail system, protect the communities that use, live and work on our railways. This investment is essential to ensure that Canada’s rail system continues to transport people and goods safely and reliably to their destinations, now and in the future. ”
