KAI Commuter plans to deploy eight new electric train sets, totaling 96 cars, to replace outdated units and upgrade Commuter Line services throughout the Greater Jakarta metropolitan region. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

KAI Commuter Receives Train Sets from CRRC and INKA
KAI Commuter has already received seven train sets from China’s CRRC and one from Indonesia’s PT INKA as part of its rolling stock upgrade initiative.

Each set consists of 12 cars, and the total of 96 new units arrived between January 30 and May 22, 2025, as part of a phased delivery schedule.
The company confirmed the latest delivery—two sets from CRRC—arrived on May 23, 2025. These additions will replace trains that have reached the end of their operational lifespan.
KAI Commuter Prepares for Operational Testing Phase
Before entering service, the new train sets must pass parameter and dynamic testing under Regulation No. 49 of 2023 issued by the Ministry of Transportation.
Testing will be overseen by the Directorate General of Railways to ensure all trains meet safety and certification standards for conventional self-propelled vehicles.
In addition to the current fleet, the company has ordered 27 more train sets, totaling 324 cars. These will be sourced from both local and international manufacturers.
KAI Commuter expects the new trains to be operational soon, following testing approval. The move aims to modernize the fleet and improve passenger services in Jabodetabek.
