08.04.2025
The Nigerian Railway Corporation and Plateau State today launched the Jos–Kuru Rail Revival. This deal aims to enhance transport and spark economic growth regionally. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

NRC Managing Director Dr. Kayode Opeifa and Commissioner Jatau Davou signed the pact. This Memorandum of Understanding promises reduced costs and better mobility for goods and people.

At the signing event, Davou praised Transportation Minister Sa’ad Ahmed Alkali for his support. He also thanked Dr. Opeifa for overcoming challenges to make this project happen.
Davou emphasized the project’s broader impact, speaking on behalf of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang. “This restores hope and prosperity,” he said, “and counters false narratives about our state.”
The Jos–Kuru line connects Nigeria’s Western and Eastern rail networks strategically. It enhances access for communities, speeds up agricultural trade, and cuts travel expenses significantly.
Jos–Kuru Rail Revival Drives Economic Growth
Dr. Opeifa stressed the value of federal and state teamwork in his speech. He commended Plateau State for pushing to revive this overlooked rail corridor actively.
“This collaboration transcends politics,” Opeifa declared, highlighting benefits for Nigerians nationwide. “We’re delivering dignity, jobs, and unity through this rail project.”
He also tackled rumors about stolen railway coaches, setting the record straight. “Those coaches now undergo rehabilitation in Plateau for productive use,” he clarified.
The NRC plans to appoint a business manager to oversee daily operations soon. This move ensures efficiency and supports local employment and small business growth effectively.
Opeifa noted the project aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. Full backing from Minister Alkali guarantees federal commitment to accessible rail transport nationwide.
“We aim to connect Nigeria by rail, from Jos to Borno and beyond,” he said. This initiative marks a fresh start for the nation’s railway system.
Jos–Kuru Rail Revival Nears Launch
Commercial services on the Jos–Kuru line will launch shortly, Opeifa confirmed. The Tinubu administration remains dedicated to expanding rail access across every Nigerian region.
Initially, the line operates on narrow-gauge tracks, but upgrades are planned. Future enhancements include shifting to standard-gauge under the national railway modernization program.
This partnership showcases how government collaboration drives infrastructure progress, Davou added. It also opens opportunities for advertising and entertainment along the rail route.
The Jos–Kuru Rail Revival strengthens Nigeria’s economy and integrates its regions, Opeifa concluded. Expect more rail projects as the government prioritizes efficient transport for all citizens.
With operations nearing, this corridor promises jobs and better trade prospects locally. The NRC and Plateau State lead the charge toward a connected, thriving Nigeria.
