16.02.2025
Efforts to recover the derailed Javelin train from Ramsgate have started today at the rail depot. Multiple rail service companies are ensuring coordination and careful execution during this process. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

DB, which owns the railway’s freight sector, has supplied experienced crew members for the recovery. The GBRf locomotive from Tonbridge is playing a key role in the operation.

Stabilizing the Ground for the Javelin Train Recovery
Recovery teams must first stabilize the soft ground beneath the derailed Javelin train. Engineers will then lay temporary rails underneath, preparing for repositioning onto the tracks.
Recovery efforts involve DB, GBRf, Southeastern, DRS, and Quatro Group, working closely together. These groups aim to ensure the safe return of the train to service.
The Javelin train, known as “Ben Ainslie,” derailed from its track at Ramsgate on November 28. The train passed the buffer stop, causing two front carriages to derail.
Service Changes During Javelin Train Recovery
No passengers were aboard the Javelin train at the time, and the derailment resulted in no injuries. Southeastern confirmed that the train was running at low speed in a siding.
Since the incident, the Javelin has remained in Ramsgate’s sidings awaiting recovery. Network Rail implemented a temporary speed restriction of 20 mph near the site.
The abandoned train was vandalized with graffiti, leading to an official investigation by British Transport Police. Authorities are actively working to identify those responsible.
A Southeastern-Network Rail Alliance spokesperson confirmed that recovery operations are planned for this weekend. The removal of the Javelin train coincides with previously scheduled engineering work in the area.
Rail services will be temporarily modified between Ramsgate and Margate on Saturday and Sunday. Additional route changes will impact connections between Minster and Deal over the weekend.
