Israeli Railways (IR) and Alstom have signed a €260 million contract for the delivery of 96 double-decker carriages, creating eight-car trains with a capacity of over 1200 passengers each, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The contract follows a 7 billion shekel (1.74 billion euros) investment program in the summer of 2023.
In November 2023, IR also announced plans to acquire 36 Traxx locomotives from Bombardier (acquired by Alstom in 2021) under a 2015 framework agreement.
These investments highlight the strategic development of railway transport in Israel.
Israel is actively developing its railway infrastructure, investing in modern rolling stock from leading global manufacturers such as Alstom and Siemens.
The new contract with Alstom for double-decker carriages is part of a strategy to modernize and increase the capacity of passenger trains.
