New Tram Line in Ireland

The tram line project, with a length of 18 km, will include 25 stops and provide convenient connections to the suburb of Mahon.

The travel time from Ballincollig to Cork city center will be 35 minutes, while the trip to Mahon will take an additional 20 minutes. Trams will run at 6-minute intervals, with the possibility of reducing the interval if passenger traffic increases.

Ireland and Transport Sustainability

The project involves the use of trams that are fully accessible to people with limited mobility. The entire line will provide access for wheelchairs and strollers. Bicycle lanes will be built along the route, and a 1000-space parking lot will be constructed near Ballincollig.

The Luas Cork project is an important part of the city’s public transport development strategy. In the next 20 years, Cork’s population is expected to increase by 50-60%, which will require improvements to the transport infrastructure.

The project is also linked to the BusConnects Cork program, which will improve bus services in Cork and its suburbs.

Moreover, Ireland is actively striving to achieve climate neutrality. Cork, along with Dublin, is among the 100 EU cities that must achieve climate neutrality by 2030.
