Zakeri noted that the deal was reached at the 81st meeting of the CIS Railway Transport Council held in Tashkent. With its status as an associate member, Iran can deepen cooperation with CIS states. The parties signed a four-party agreement for the delivery of freight cars, marking an important step in regional transport infrastructure development.
Agreement for the Delivery of Freight Cars to CIS Countries
In addition to the delivery of freight cars, Iran received permission for its rolling stock to move along CIS railway networks. The agreement permits Iranian freight cars to transit through Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, enhancing logistics links between these countries.
Prospects for Cooperation in Freight Car Delivery
Earlier in 2023, Iran’s railway administration announced an increase in railway transportation volumes. To meet this growing demand, Iran plans to import passenger cars and locomotives, while producing freight cars domestically for export to neighboring regions.
