Intramotev Unveils Revolutionary TugVolt Battery Platform: How It Will Transform Freight Transport

The American company Intramotev has showcased its self-propelled TugVolt platform, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

This is the first platform upgraded for battery-powered traction. Loaded with two tiers of 40-foot containers, the platform couples with a boxcar and pulls it. The platform is controlled remotely via a controller.

The TugVolt technology is designed for “last-mile” operations. With this technology, a single platform can tow up to five cars on flat terrain.

This year, the launch of such platforms is planned for a mine in Northern Michigan.

In August, the three battery-powered hoppers, upgraded by Intramotev using the ReVolt technology, covered over 8,000 km.

Unlike TugVolt, the ReVolt technology does not include self-propulsion features but enhances traction and reduces diesel consumption in locomotives.

In August, Intramotev secured $14.4 million in investments from ten investment firms to further develop the TugVolt and ReVolt technologies.
