In April 2024, TransLink, the operator of Vancouver’s SkyTrain light metro system, unveiled a video showcasing the interior of the newest unmanned metro train Mark V by Alstom, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
This first five-car train underwent testing at Alstom’s facility in Kingston, covering 4,600 km from August to December of last year.

Testing on the SkyTrain network is scheduled soon, with a launch planned for the end of this year.
The Mark V is an upgraded version of the Mark III model, which has been in operation in Vancouver since 2016 and was produced by Bombardier Transportation.
The new model offers significant improvements.
Passenger capacity has increased from 940 to 1,207 people due to a new seating arrangement.
The train now features areas for bicycles and strollers, as well as leaning cushions for standing passengers, making journeys more comfortable for all passenger categories.
The contract for the delivery of 41 Mark V trains by 2028 was signed in 2020 with Bombardier for $565 million. In 2021, following Bombardier’s merger with Alstom, the contract execution was transferred to the new company.
The arrival of the Mark V symbolizes a major step forward in the development of Vancouver’s public transport.
The introduction of modernized trains with increased capacity and amenities enhances passenger service quality and meets the growing needs of the city.
Passenger safety and comfort were the main priorities in the development of this train.
TransLink is actively working to improve the city’s transport infrastructure.
By 2028, the new trains are expected to fully replace the older models, significantly improving transit and easing the load on the existing metro network.
These innovations are part of a broader strategy to modernize and expand public transportation, helping to reduce road congestion and the city’s carbon footprint.

In the face of global environmental challenges, such initiatives are becoming increasingly important.
The video presented by TransLink offers a glimpse into the new train’s interior and its innovative design.
The video showcases spacious carriages, comfortable seats, and additional standing passenger areas, indicating that the company pays great attention to both technical specifications and passenger comfort.
Thus, the introduction of the unmanned Mark V train by Alstom in Vancouver’s SkyTrain system is a significant step forward in urban transport improvement.
The new trains promise to make journeys more comfortable and safer, which in turn will encourage more people to use public transport and reduce dependency on personal vehicles.
