Ukrzaliznytsia (UZ) plans to spend 79 million UAH on installing Wi-Fi in passenger trains, as reported by the railway portal Railway Supply.

The “Main Information and Computing Center” branch of Ukrzaliznytsia signed a contract with the company “Wincom Ukraine” for 78.89 million UAH to deploy a telecommunications network and provide wireless Internet access in Intercity trains.

As per the agreement, the company will carry out project work, supply, installation, and commissioning of equipment to deploy the telecommunications network in 10 Hyundai HRCS2 trains, two Skoda EJ675 trains, two ЭКр-1 “Tarpan” trains, and two МПЛТ trains.

Internet access will be provided through Starlink, LTE, and Wi-Fi from stations, allowing passengers to have wireless access through Wi-Fi.

The total amount for equipment, manufactured no earlier than 2022, is 65.03 million UAH, and for services, it’s 13.15 million UAH. Equipment and services delivery is expected to be completed by April 2024, with a three-year warranty period for the equipment after installation and debugging.

The savings compared to the expected purchase cost of 96 million UAH amount to 18%.

Competing in the tender were also companies “Green Networks,” “Smart Innovation,” and “Bilintech Ukraine.”
