Belgium’s national railway infrastructure operator implemented the solution to boost its data network’s capacity. The 64Gbit/s Fibre Channel over Wavelength Division Multiplexing supports high-speed communication and scalable SAN connectivity.

Quantum-Safe Security Solutions for Infrabel’s Railway Operations

Arcadiz played a pivotal role by offering engineering, installation, and 24/7 support services. This collaboration ensured the seamless deployment of Adtran’s advanced optical terminal technology.

Trump’s Tariffs Could Reshape Cross-Border Trade

The FSP 3000 S-Flex connects Infrabel’s distributed data centres with Fibre Channel speeds ranging from 16Gbit/s to 64Gbit/s. This enhanced capability ensures reliable operations across Belgium’s railway system.

Alex Raviart, head of ICT networks at Infrabel, described this upgrade as transformative for the railway’s infrastructure. He highlighted how it boosts data reliability, meets growing demands, and supports the complexities of modern digital operations.

Built-in quantum-safe encryption via ConnectGuard further secures Infrabel’s data. This technology safeguards communications from future quantum-computer-based threats, ensuring long-term data protection.

The system’s 400Gbit/s capacity makes it ideal for SAN DCI networks. It supports disaster recovery and data backup, essential for uninterrupted railway operations.

Stuart Broome, Adtran EMEA’s sales general manager, emphasized the solution’s performance and security benefits. He noted its low latency, ultra-high capacity, and advanced encryption features as vital for Infrabel’s digital transformation.

In December 2023, Infrabel secured €1 billion to finance its ten-year infrastructure plan. The funds will enhance capacity on key routes, including the Flemish corridor and the Ottignies-Louvain-to-Luxembourg route.

This investment, paired with cutting-edge technology like Adtran’s solution, ensures Belgium’s railways are future-ready. Infrabel continues to lead in modernizing transport systems through innovative and secure infrastructure upgrades.
