Indore Launches First Metro Line with Alstom Trains

Indore has officially launched its first metro line, operated by modern three-car Movia trains from Alstom. The Yellow Line section spans 6.3 km and includes five stations. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

These stainless steel trains can reach speeds of up to 80 km/h. Each set accommodates up to 350 passengers, including 50 seats and dedicated spaces for wheelchairs.

The Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (MPMRCL) has already received 14 out of 25 trains ordered. The first train arrived in Indore last spring, 14.5 months after the contract was signed.
Alstom Supplies Trains and Systems to Indore and Bhopal
Under the agreement, Alstom will supply 25 trains to Indore and another 27 to Bhopal Metro. The contract also includes the implementation of signaling and communication systems.
Additionally, Alstom will provide technical maintenance for all trains over a 15-year period. The total contract value stands at €387 million, which is approximately $418 million at the current exchange rate.
Rolling Stock for Indore Built Under Make in India Program
The trains are being manufactured at Alstom’s Savli plant in Gujarat under the Indian government’s Make in India initiative. This localized production supports job creation and strengthens national industry.
The launch of Indore Metro marks a major step toward sustainable urban mobility. It will ease road congestion, reduce travel times, and improve environmental conditions in the city.
