The company, operating under India’s Ministry of Railways, offers end-to-end expertise in transport infrastructure. It delivers services across design, engineering, civil works, rolling stock, signaling, and operations.

RITES has completed over 100 projects across 25 African countries. Current operations span Ethiopia, Ghana, Senegal, and Mozambique, where it continues to deliver high-impact mobility solutions.

Executives have made several visits to Tanzania this year. They submitted technical and financial proposals for the next phases of the Standard Gauge Railway and additional cross-border connectivity initiatives.

The firm also held discussions with the Ministry of Transport and the Tanzania Railways Corporation. RITES is exploring partnerships with neighboring countries like the Democratic Republic of Congo to support regional freight corridors.

Tanzania Railway Vision Attracts International Partners

Tanzania’s Standard Gauge Railway will link Dar es Salaam to Rwanda, Burundi, the DRC, and Zambia. The goal is to reduce freight costs and stimulate growth in mining, agriculture, and logistics.

This multibillion-dollar plan aims to transform East Africa’s trade infrastructure. The government seeks global partners with technical expertise and a commitment to local capacity building.

RITES could meet those expectations by combining technical know-how with local workforce development. The firm is known for setting up training centers and providing ongoing support for spare parts and system upgrades.

RITES Expands African Footprint Through Strategic Investment

Through its subsidiary in Botswana, RITES Afrika Pty Ltd, the company supports rail and road projects continent-wide. In Ghana, it assists railway operations and helped design the Tema-Akosombo corridor.

In Uganda, RITES worked on key roads and feasibility studies. In Mauritius, it delivered India’s first overseas metro. In Botswana, it led airport and road development under an economic stimulus plan.

India’s broader Africa strategy includes grants, soft loans, and tech support for infrastructure. RITES plays a central role by offering engineering solutions that promote economic integration and sustainable mobility.
