Indian Railways sets record by producing 7,134 coaches in a year

In the 2024/25 financial year, Indian Railways reached a record output of 7,134 passenger coaches, exceeding the previous year’s result by 9%. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Indian Railways shows growth in passenger coach production
The Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai made a major contribution by producing 3,007 coaches. Among them were 1,169 multiple units, including 21 Vande Bharat electric trains with seating coaches, the first 16-car Vande Bharat with sleeping modules, and the new 12-car Namo Bharat.

Additionally, ICF manufactured 1,838 locomotive-hauled coaches built to German LHB standards and four Amrit Bharat push-pull trains, each consisting of 22 coaches.
Expansion of production at other Indian Railways factories
The Rail Coach Factory (RCF) in Kapurthala produced 2,102 coaches, increasing output by 9.5% compared to the previous year. Among the highlights was the first Vande Metro electric train for intercity routes.
The Modern Coach Factory (MCF) in Rae Bareli showed even stronger growth, delivering 2,025 coaches — 16.8% more than the year before.
Previously, Indian Railways reported record locomotive production, highlighting the strong demand and the growing appeal of the Indian market for leading global rolling stock manufacturers.
