The IRCTC will give Aadhaar-verified users a 10-minute head start before all other accounts. During this window, authorized agents will be restricted from booking.

Non-verified accounts must pass additional checks. Any account flagged as suspicious will be blocked immediately to protect system fairness and booking access.

Between May 24 and June 2, over 62.5% of AC Tatkal tickets and 66.4% of non-AC tickets sold out in the first 10 minutes. Around 12% were booked later, showing strong demand even close to departure.

Why e-Aadhaar Verification for Tatkal Tickets Is Required

Fraudulent bookings using bots and fake IDs have grown significantly. In response, IRCTC blocked over 35 million fake accounts and flagged another 2 million for suspicious activity.

To address this, all IRCTC accounts must now link to Aadhaar. The new rule enhances security and reduces misuse by non-genuine users and booking agents.

Technology Behind e-Aadhaar Verification for Tatkal Tickets

IRCTC uses AI to detect bots, fake IDs, and temporary emails. These tools dropped new account creation from 60,000–65,000 per day to 10,000–12,000, easing traffic and reducing abuse.

The Ministry of Railways and MeitY have tasked CRIS with managing this integration. Travelers will have to consent to use their Aadhaar for authentication.

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed that e-Aadhaar verification for Tatkal tickets will launch soon. The system should make booking fairer and easier for genuine passengers.
