The Dahod locomotive plant is Indian Railways’ fifth manufacturing unit, built to meet rising freight demands. It will produce 9,000-horsepower electric locomotives designed for long-distance cargo transport. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the first prototype is nearly complete. Only 30-40 days remain before multi-stage testing begins.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the project in April 2022. Later, Siemens won a $3.13 billion contract in December 2022 to handle production. Each locomotive can haul 4,500 tonnes at speeds up to 75 km/h, improving efficiency on vital economic routes.
