BEML Chairman Shantanu Roy stated that the project demands advanced technological solutions. These include passenger safety systems, metal fabrication, welding, and railway signaling.

According to him, India is prioritizing localization, as most materials are supplied by domestic manufacturers. This helps reduce the train’s production cost and shortens lead times.

The company signed a $101 million contract in October 2024 with Integral Coach Factory, a subsidiary of national operator Indian Railways.

Under the agreement, BEML will supply two eight-car trainsets. The trains will have a maximum speed of 280 km/h and an operating speed of 249 km/h.

India Focuses on Localization and Technological Advancement

Company officials highlight the use of Indian-made stainless steel, electronics, and engineering as key advantages that enhance the project’s global competitiveness.

Developing a high-speed train domestically also reduces India’s dependence on foreign technologies and suppliers.

India Strengthens Its Position in the High-Speed Rail Market

Launching the first trains on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad route will mark a major milestone in expanding the country’s transportation infrastructure. The project aims to improve connectivity and reduce travel time between key cities.

Experts believe successful trials will pave the way for full-scale high-speed train production within the country.
