India Launches New Metro Networks in Andhra Pradesh Cities
06.05.2025
India is launching new Metro Networks in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada to expand public transit and ease traffic in these fast-growing Andhra Pradesh cities. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

SYSTRA India is leading the update of the Comprehensive Mobility Plans (CMPs) for both cities. Originally created in 2019, these CMPs now support feasibility studies required to access federal funding.
Metro Networks Planned to Transform Urban Travel
Visakhapatnam’s metro will include three lines spanning 46 kilometers. Vijayawada will receive a 38-kilometer system across two lines. Each network will enhance urban mobility and support eco-friendly travel options.

The systems aim to encourage commuters to switch from private vehicles to public transport. This shift will help reduce congestion, lower emissions, and improve safety on urban roads.
Ankush Malhotra, Director of Consulting at SYSTRA India, stated the company is proud to support Andhra Pradesh’s infrastructure progress. He emphasized ongoing collaboration with the Andhra Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (APMRCL).
Government-Led Effort to Develop Metro Networks
APMRCL, the state-run agency, is managing both metro projects. It ensures alignment with regional mobility goals and urban development plans.
The initiative supports Andhra Pradesh’s long-term vision of efficient, connected, and sustainable transportation. Improved infrastructure is expected to stimulate economic activity and reduce travel times.
Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada represent strategic locations for high-capacity transit investment. The Metro Networks will serve millions of residents and support future population growth.
By investing in modern transport systems, the state aims to strengthen accessibility, drive productivity, and enhance quality of life for its citizens.
