India is investing a ambitious $12 billion in upgrading its railway rolling stock

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced plans to acquire 7,000-8,000 new trains over the next 5 years, with procurement tenders expected in 4-5 years and deliveries to be completed within 15 years, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
The focus is on the Vande Bharat project, aiming to purchase 400-450 high-speed passenger trains.
A competition has been announced for the supply of 40 hybrid locomotives
Orders for 210 Vande Bharat trains are already placed, with local manufacturers and consortia such as BEML, Transmashholding, RVNL, Titagarh Wagons, and BHEL involved.
The goal is to enhance network capacity and increase train speeds, contributing to India’s transportation modernization and future economic development.
