India to Upgrade Railway Transport: New Trains and Infrastructure

In 2025-2026, the government will order 100 Amrit Bharat trains, 50 Namo Bharat trains, and 200 Vande Bharat trains. Production will be completed within the next two to three years, followed by their operation.

India’s railway network will also be expanded with 2,000 passenger coaches for locomotive traction. Over the coming years, authorities plan to produce 17,500 such coaches, modernizing passenger transport.

Funding and Development Plans for India’s Railways

Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that 1,400 coaches will be manufactured by the end of March. In the next fiscal year, passenger coach production will increase to 2,000 units, accelerating railway upgrades.

Additionally, Indian authorities aim to achieve 100% railway electrification by March. The budget includes ₹4.6 trillion ($54 billion) for infrastructure development across the country.

Furthermore, a consortium of Titagarh Wagons and BHEL will produce 1,200 additional coaches in Chennai. This will expand the network of modern trains, improving the nation’s transportation system.
